Marriage turns Murder: Ex-husband stabs ex-wife to death after 20 years of marriage

In Nantou in southern Taiwan, a man and his ex-wife were in front of the government land office, arguing their divorce settlement after 20 years of marriage. The ex-couple were there to sign the papers to finalize the settlement.
In the middle of the argument the ex-husband, identified by his last name, Shi, age 51, pulled a knife and wrestled his ex-wife to the ground. He then slung a leg over her body and began to stab her in the side and back.
Bystanders eventually separated the two and called for emergency services, the husband can be heard screaming obscenities and asking his ex-wife if she was happy now.
The woman later died at the hospital where doctors were unable to save her. Authorities said that the woman had been stabbed over 10 times.
The initial trial sentenced Mr. Shi to 18 years for murder, but the High Court in Taichung disagreed with the decision. The court determined that the murder had been premeditated as the man brought the knife with him to the government office, so they overturned the decision and commuted Mr. Shi’s sentence to life in prison.
