Fire kills man’s entire family after he locks them inside to go to 24-hour Internet cafe

An eastern Taiwanese man returned home in the early morning hours only to find all his family members dead after his house had been burned to the ground.
The man, identified as a Mr. Xu, lived in Hualien and had reportedly been suffering from depression ever since his first wife had divorced him.
He would often leave his home late at night, but worried about his family’s safety and made sure to securely lock all the doors.
Only this night, after Mr. Xu left to go to an 24-hour Internet cafe, his house caught in fire.
By the time emergency services and firefighters arrived, the entire structure was ablaze. They were able to put out the flames by the time the sun came up, which was when Mr. Xu returned.
He asked emergency services where his family was and they said no one had escaped the burning building.
His second wife, aged 27, was found still lying in her bed. Authorities speculate that she must’ve died of smoke inhalation in her sleep.
Mr. Xu’s 80-year-old mother and his 6-year-old daughter were found collapsed and burned just inside the locked and blocked front door. Xu explained that they no longer used the front door, the only way to enter and exit the home was through its back door.
Authorities said that the fire started near the back of the building and the backdoor may have been completely blocked by the flames.
Authorities intend to conduct an additional investigation to figure out what may have caused the fire in the first place and to determine whether or not Mr. Xu is truly grieving for the loss of his as claims to be.
