St. Fratty’s Day accident: Cal Poly students injured when garage roof collapses

Eight Cal Poly students were injured early on Saturday when the roof of a garage they were standing on collapsed during a party to celebrate St Fratty’s Day.
The students were part of a group of around 1,000 students who had gathered in the town of San Luis Obispo to party ahead of St. Patricks Day on March 17.
Around 40 students were on the roof of the one-storey wooden garage when it suddenly gave way, sending them crashing to the ground.
Footage of the incident showed the structure collapse in a cloud of dust, dumping the revellers in a pile of broken wooden beams and debris.
Four students were taken to hospital. One female partygoer was left with a serious injury when a piece of wood impaled her leg.
Officials said it was a miracle there were no other serious injuries.
