Dunya News - Eleven dead, several injured as mosque roof collapses in Lahore

At least eleven people died and several others were injured as roof of a mosque in Daroghawala area collapsed on Tuesday. More casualties are feared as over thirty people are still trapped under the heavy wreckage, Dunya News reported.
According to the details, the incident took place near a floor mill at AS Stop in Daroghawala area of Lahore, when two-story mosque’s roof collapsed as worshippers were busy offering Zauhar prayers.
The impact was strong enough to take down the whole building with it.
As many as 40 worshippers were inside the mosque at the time of collapse who were trapped as a result.
The sight soon turned into a tragic sight with echoes of cries for help of those trapped inside.
The locals began the rescue operation on self-help basis, and were later joined by the rescue officials.
The heavy machinery to navigate through the wreckage failed to enter because of the thin streets. Those trapped are being evacuated with the help of roof cutters.
As many as ten injured worshippers were taken to hospital and more injuries are feared as over thirty people are still trapped under the wreckage.
The superior officials also reached the site on the spot to oversee the rescue operation. Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif directed the authorities to provide best medical care to the injured after taking notice of the incident.
President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain expressed grief over the incident.
