Cop shoots thief: shoplifter jacks car with kids inside shot dead by Long Island cop

A robbery suspect was shot and killed by Long Island police Sunday night after a dramatic chase that included the attempted carjacking of a car containing two small children.
The chase began shortly after a witness spotted Denzel Brown, 21, who allegedly stole two pairs of headphones from Best Buy, hiding between two trailers as he pulled onto the car park of the store in off West Sunrise Highway in Islip.
The witness informed police, but Brown then fled as a female officer tried to apprehend him. She fired her taser during the struggle, but only one of the prongs came out.
The officer then chased the suspect across the parking lot and the main road into a nearby residential area.
Where he tried to carjack a car that parked on a driveway with two small children sitting in the back.
Brown climbed into the driver’s seat and tried to drive away, forcing the officer to fire one shot at close range through the driver’s side window.
The officer then reached inside the moving car to try and knock it into park, but Brown continued to try and drive away, so she tried to tase him again, unsuccessfully.
Fearing for her own the officer then fired a second shot into Brown’s abdomen at point blank range.
He kept driving but was eventually subdued by several other officers.
Brown died during surgery at a nearby hospital.
The officer was unharmed. Headphones were later recovered from the parking lot where Brown had been hiding.
