Two boys in Newburgh were rescued after being trapped in a pile of snow. Just prior to the terrifying incident, the children, identified as 9-year-old Jason Rivera and 11-year-old Elijah Martinez, had been playing across the street from the apartment complex where they live.

At approximately 10 p.m. on Wednesday, they went missing. Police were notified and a search was launched.

During the efforts, officers learned the children had been digging out of a bank while building a snow fort when a snow plow came by and inadvertently buried them.

The plow was clearing the parking lot where the boys were playing and pushed more snow onto the pile, which trapped them underneath.

A police officer later noticed a shovel protruding out of the snow mound. Reportedly they also heard faint voices, indicating the boys were under the pile.

Cops along with residents used shovels and their bare hands to dig and found the children at around 2 in the morning. The boys were conscious and transported to the hospital, where they spent Thanksgiving.

Both were suffering from exposure but are expected to recover.
