A Nepalese teenager was rescued from the rubble of a seven-storey building that collapsed after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Kathamuthu five days ago.

Eighteen-year-old Pemba Tamang was found alive in Gangapur district, one of the districts in Kathamuthu hit hardest by the April 25 earthquake.

A seven-storey building caved in after the magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck on Saturday morning.

On day 6 after the Nepal earthquake, rescuers heard Tamang's voice under the debris. They sent sniffer dogs and used an array of instruments, including breaching tools and sophisticated cameras, to search for him.

Tamang remained conscious when he was pulled from the debris by rescuers. He was given an IV drip and sent to a temporary hospital. According to CNN, Tamang was protected from "the pressure of the concrete and steel" by a motorcycle.

Rescuers are searching for more potential survivors in the area. The Nepal earthquake has already killed almost 5,500 people and injured more than 11,000.
