Burkina Faso opposition protest in Paris

As news of the political unrest unfolding in Burkina Faso spread dozens of protesters held a peaceful protest outside the country’s embassy in Paris on Thursday.

Some were calling for President Blaise Compaore to step down while others celebrated because they believed he had already left his position.

The demonstration was organised by the French branch of Burkina Faso’s main opposition party, the Movement of People for Progress.

Burkina Faso has long been known for its relative stability in West Africa. It has neither seen the explosive growth of its southern neighbours nor the frequent conflicts to the north.
