As pro-democracy demonstrations pick up steam in Hong Kong, supporters from cities around the world are gathering to show their solidarity.

From Taiwan to Manila- people are standing together with the Hong Kong protesters in their call for open and free elections.

In Manhattan - demonstrators sung lyrics from the musical Les Miserable- the songs of which have come to represent the fight for democracy.

But not everyone supports the demonstrations. A group of anti-occupy protesters gathered in Hong Kong to voice their frustration.

"We don't want our Hong Kong economy to be damaged by these people. They don't represent us at all."

Protesters have given the Hong Kong's chief executive until the end of the day to resign. So far he has refused to step down.
