Clashes erupt in Hong Kong over pro-democracy protests

A face off in the streets of Hong Kong.

Hundreds of pro-government supporters, angry at protesters occupying the city centre, stormed the protest encampment in a bid to drive them away.

Many protesters were forced to retreat, but not without a fight.

In the past week, tens of thousands of demonstrators have occupied Hong Kong streets, demanding full democracy... including a free voting system when they come to choose a new leader in 2017.

The mood has been tense since last weekend's violent clashes with police.

Now, authorities say they'll exercise tolerance but warn protesters against blocking busy streets.

"This behaviour is not only irresponsible but also law-breaking."
