Yemeni soldiers open fire on demonstrators, killing four as protests rage

The chaotic moments as Yemeni soldiers open fire on Shi'ite protesters in the capital Sanaa.

At least four people are reported killed, in the bloodiest day of tense demonstrations that have gripped Sanaa for weeks.

Anti-government activists loyal to the Houthi religious insurgency group say dozens were wounded.

(SOUNDBITE)(Arabic) HOUTHI PROTESTER, NAJEEB AL-KHASHIB SAYING:

"This is the arbitrariness of the government against unarmed civilians, randomly shooting citizens, there are more than 12 people dead and wounded."

A security source says the protesters had tried to storm the cabinet building.

For weeks, Houthi protesters have staged sit-ins at ministry buildings to oust the government, accusing it of corruption.

The group's critics say armed Houthi rebels are trying to grab power and carve out a semi-independent state themselves, something the Houthis deny.
