Kurds call for help to fight Islamic State in northern Iraq

Kurdish Peshmerga forces in northern Iraq are calling for more support from the United States in their fight against Islamic State militants.
The town of Makhmour, around 40 kilometres southwest of Irbil, is now firmly under Peshmerga control after being in danger of falling to IS militants.
But they say they will need more help to push the Islamists back further.
“Yes, we need more support from the US and we are waiting for more weapons”, said Captain Tahsin Said Ahmed. “We need more help from the US because without them we can’t do anything. We need them.”
The Kurdish forces claim morale is high after recent gains across the region.
But Islamic State is still threatening to destabilise the region and without outside help from the US and other countries their progress could lose momentum.
