Battling Islamic State militants

Peshmerga forces take back a village just south of the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk Thursday - ending an Islamic State siege that lasted more than two months.
(SOUNDBITE) (Kurdish) PESHMERGA FORCES COMMANDER, SHORASH JAWHER, SAYING:
"We imposed full control of the town. We killed more than 10 Islamic State militants, and we still have their dead bodies."
Kurdish peshmerga forces along with Shi'ite militias and Iraqi troops retook the village after U.S. air strikes late Saturday hit IS positions.
On Thursday, the Defense Department released footage from last week showing a series of strikes on Islamic State targets.
Islamic State militants launched a lightning advance through northern and central Iraq in June. The U.S. Central Command said says it conducted a total of 127 air strikes across Iraq so far in an effort to end the carnage from the Islamic State
