20 trapped gold miners rescued in Nicaragua as search continues

Twenty miners who had been trapped underground for two days after a landslide at a gold mine in Nicaragua have been freed.
Authorities said the men who were aged between 18 and 35 had no visible injuries but they were taken to a local clinic for check ups.
Those who were rescued had all been in the same part of the mine. The search now continues for another seven men.
Hundreds of relatives and fellow miners had gathered outside the tunnel leading into the mine to pray for their safe rescue.
Groups of five or 10 rescuers entered the mine on wooden ladders which they tied themselves onto to get in and reach the men.
Two other miners had managed to escape on their own.
The accident happened at the El Comal mine in the Bonanza region in the north of country.
The miners are all freelancers who have to sell any gold they find to the company.
Two other miners died in the same area last month.
