Obama calls for peace, transparency in Missouri after shooting

U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday (August 14) called for peace on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, after the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a police officer and urged authorities to be transparent in their investigation.
"When something like this happens, the local authorities, including the police have a responsibility to be open and transparent about how they are investigating that death and how they are protecting the people in their communities," Obama told reporters on Martha's Vineyard, where he is vacationing with his family.
"There is never an excuse for violence against police, or for those who would use this tragedy as a cover for vandalism or looting," Obama added.
He said he had asked the attorney general and U.S. attorney on the scene to report back to him in the coming days about the investigation process.
