Hamas admits to Gaza ambush, Israel continues shelling

Israel continues shelling the area -- a day after a 72-hour ceasefire was broken.

Though both sides deny violating the truce, Hamas acknowledged responsibility for a deadly ambush where an Israeli army officer may have been captured.

An act strongly condemned by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, says a spokesman:

"Such moves call into question the credibility of Hamas' assurances to the United Nations. The secretary-general demands the immediate and unconditional release of the captured soldier."

Sixty-three Israeli soldiers have been killed in the violence so far.

People in southern Israel are distraught by the news of a captured soldier.
