Gaza calm as Palestinians mourn and prepare for Eid

Gaza has experienced one of the calmest nights in weeks as Palestinians prepare for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.

The feast which marks the end of Ramadan, lasts three days.

The festival will be tinged with sadness as Gazans come to terms with the scale of the destruction and the number of dead, over 1,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed in the conflict.

Israel says it reserves the right to respond to any rocket attacks on its territory.

Over the weekend Israeli authorities say they have concluded an investigation into the bombing of a UN shelter in Beit Hanoun, where at least 15 people died.

The probe found a “single errant mortar” landed in the courtyard of the school when the building was unoccupied and Israel was not responsible for the carnage.
