Microsoft 'to cut thousands of jobs' after Nokia takeover

Microsoft is reportedly planning its biggest round of job cuts in five years.
According to Bloomberg the layoffs will be announced as early as this week as the software maker moves to integrate Nokia, the phone company it absorbed this spring.
As well as at Nokia, and in the parts of Microsoft that overlap with that business, cuts are expected in the marketing and engineering departments.
According to the report, quoting sources at Microsoft, the restructuring under new Chief Executive Satya Nadella could be the biggest in the company’s history, topping the 5,800 jobs that went in 2009.
Last week, Nadella circulated a memo to employees promising to “flatten the organisation and develop leaner business processes”.
Nadella said he would address detailed organisational and financial issues for the company’s new financial year, which started at the beginning of this month, when Microsoft reports quarterly results on July 22.
