Gunmen kill at least 29 in two attacks on Kenyan coast

The aftermath of another attack on the Kenyan coast claimed by Somali's Al-Shabaab.

Here this police station in Gamba was broken into and the inmates were freed from the detention cells.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) KENYAN RED CROSS OFFICIAL, HASSAN MUSA, SAYING:

"Gamba police station was attacked and nine people were killed during this attack, among them eight inmates and a police officer. Again they also torched a canter [truck], one vehicle at the same police station, there is one casualty who has been taken to the hospital."

This attack was one of two on Saturday night in the coastal area.

In a separate raid, the Hindi trading centre in nearby Lamu county was attacked by around a dozen gunmen.

Buildings and vehicles were burned and people were shot at indiscriminately.

Scores of people died in the two incidents.
