Brazil: Sao Paulo street violence over transport fares and World Cup

The latest street protest in Brazil started peacefully enough but it ended in violence as youths demanding free public transport and denouncing spending on the World Cup clashed with police in Sao Paulo.
Shops were looted and luxury cars attacked in a showroom as a group of demonstrators went on a rampage of destruction.
Trouble flared just as the England-Uruguay match was coming to a close on the other side of Brazil’s biggest city but there were no reports of any foreign football fans getting caught up in the unrest.
The earlier, largely calm protest had seen some 1,300 people on the streets, celebrating their success in preventing a roughly 10 percent rise in public transport fares this time last year.
