The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923)

Quintessential Lon Chaney, as "the Man of a Thousand Faces" brings to life the role of the misshapen and misfortunate bellringer from Victor Hugo's 1831 novel "Notre-Dame de Paris" in a film that, for all the grotesque appearance of Quasimodo, is a period costume-drama filled with romance and tragedy rather than outright horror. One of the true classic films of the silent era.

Chaney based his make-up on Hugo's original drawings of the character.
