Hiker At Yosemite Rescued After Nearly Falling Down Waterfall

Park rangers in Yosemite National Park have reminded visitors to exert caution after a stranded hiker prompted a major rescue.

On May 28th, the Yosemite Emergency Communications Center received a call from an individual who said a friend had fallen into a creek at the base of Upper Yosemite Fall. The victim was stranded on a boulder in the middle of a river.
Two rangers were sent to assess the situation. They found the male lying on a large rock underneath numerous cascades in an area called ‘Inner Gorge’. The rangers decided to enlist the help of a helicopter for a short-haul operation.
The pilot picked up an attendant who detached from a short-haul line. He helped put a harness on the victim. The helicopter returned and lifted both men up to safety.
The hiker was taken to the hospital to be treated for hypothermia. Prior to the rescue, the victim slipped and fell on wet slabs near the gorge. The creek pulled him through about 100 feet of whitewater.
Fortunately the man was able to pull himself up on a boulder which stopped him from being flushed down a massive waterfall.
