Government Shuts Down Pakistan's No.1 Channel Geo News:
ISLAMABAD: Government’s PEMRA has ordered Geo News shutdown for 15 days against the sentiments of civil society, Parliamentarians, Senators, and political party heads as well as all journalistic associations including APNS, CPNE and PFUJ and international human right and freedom of speech advocacy groups like Amnesty International, Reporters Without Borders, Committee to Protect Journalists, Human Rights Watch, Freedom Network and Pakistan Human Rights Commission among scores of others. PEMRA sent a formal letter on Friday June 6th ordering Geo News to immediately shut down its transmission as well as pay a 10 million Rs fine.
