John Lennon's sketches up for auction

As a musician, his music is some of the best known in the world - part of contemporary music folklore.

But while millions across the globe would recognise John Lennon's name - far fewer will know his writings and drawings.

Sotheby's New York are now auctioning a collection of the late Beatle's handwritten manuscripts and sketches.

Head of Books and Titles at the auction house, Richard Austin, says that if Baby, You're a Rich Man, the lot offers a unique insight into the mind of the music legend.

SOUNDBITE: Sotheby's New York Head of Books and Titles, Richard Austin, saying (English):

"You really see Lennon's humor coming through in a lot of the artwork. He loved to draw these sorts of grotesque, fantastic characters, and you see a lot of those on display on the walls as well. It's something that when you go through, everyone seems to crack a smile when they start looking at the drawings."
