John Lennon's childhood house goes on auction

It may look like an ordinary terraced house in Liverpool, but this was the childhood home of John Lennon and on October 29th, it went up for auction at the famous Beatles haunt, the Cavern Club in Liverpool.

Although the guide price was between 150,000 and 250,000 pounds, the 3-bedroomed house where Lennon lived from birth, went for much higher to an anonymous bidder.

SOUNDBITE Andrew Brown, Countrywide Property Auctions (English) saying:

"It's someone from America - a gentleman. He's not buying it for himself, he's buying it on behalf of someone else, but he's not revealed who that person is." (Reporter: Would you like to think it's Yoko?) "I suppose, anything's possible. I know that she was the buyer of Mendips and then gifted it to the National Trust. I suppose we'll never know but if it ends in the hands of the National Trust, I suppose it's a fair assumption, but I wouldn't want to speculate."

Whoever the buyer is, it's safe to say that at 480,000 pounds
