Oregon's Governor Performs CPR, Saves Woman's Life

The governor of Oregon, John Kitzhaber may very well have helped save a woman’s life. According to his chief spokeswoman, Kitzhaber performed CPR on the female until paramedics arrived.

The governor of Oregon, John Kitzhaber may very well have helped save a woman’s life. According to his chief spokeswoman, Kitzhaber performed CPR on the female until paramedics arrived.

It all started at around 5 in the evening when Kitzhaber was cruising through Portland on his way to dinner. While en route, he looked out his window and spotted someone on the side of the road.

It appeared as though that person was trying to resuscitate a woman who was lying on the pavement. Kitzhaber, who previously worked as an emergency room doctor, told his driver to stop.

He immediately sprang out of the vehicle and ran towards the female. He ordered his security detail to call 911 while he took over the resuscitative efforts.

Kitzhaber began performing CPR on the woman, who not breathing at that time. Approximately 2 and a half minutes later, firefighters arrived on scene.

They administered drugs and utilized a defibrillator to restart the woman’s heartbeat. An ambulance pulled up about 10 minutes later and transported the female to the hospital. She is expected to recover.

One of the paramedics told reporters the woman likely overdosed. Kitzhaber’s communications director stated ‘The Governor wishes her well and hopes that she seeks treatment in order to avoid the bad situation she was faced with today.’
