Mourners bury policeman in Bahrain as peaceful protest marks third anniversary of failed uprising

STORY: Thousands of mourners attended the funeral procession on Saturday of a policemen who died of his wounds after a bomb blast late on Friday. The bomb exploded in Dair, north east of capital Manama, while police were on duty to control anti-government protesters. A second police officer is believed to have been seriously injured in the blast.

Meanwhile, 3 policemen were injured in separate blast on Friday that exploded from beneath a parked police bus. Police have arrested 26 people since Thursday (February 13) on suspicion of rioting and vandalism.

In contrast to recent unrest, tens of thousands of Bahrainis joined a peaceful demonstration along the Budaiya Highway on Saturday to mark the third anniversary of an abortive pro-democracy uprising led by majority Shi'ite Muslims. The Budaiya Highway links the capital Manama to the northwestern town of Budaiya.
