One man dead in wake of latest Kiev clashes between police and protesters

A man has died in Kiev’s most recent clashes after reportedly falling from a column.

He was said to be throwing Molotov cocktails at police with a group of protesters when he fell. He later died in hospital.

It symbolises the level of unrest which has divided the country and left the opposition seeking a strong leader.

One demonstrator from the Right sector told euronews: “They are all politically dead, Klitschko and the others. The leader of the protest is the Right sector.”

Another man said: “Everyone should think about Ukraine’s destiny. It’s a hard time for the country and if the opposition don’t reject their stupid ambitions there’ll be bloodshed”.

The violence comes despite Prime Minister Mykola Azarov’s warning that police would stop protesters by force under tough new legislation that came into effect on Tuesday.

In Kiev for euronews, correspondent Sergio Cantone said: “Amidst the throwing of Molotov cocktails and cobblestones by protesters and stun grenades and teargas from police, the crowd doesn’t really seem to have a clear strategy”.
