Mexican police mobilised after false attempted kidnapping report

A man about to be evicted from his business in the Los Pinos community of Saltillo, Mexico, has thanked police who rushed to his aid after a kidnapping false alarm on June 26.

Lawyer Pepi Ricardo Sandoval visited the business of Mario Vazquez with eviction papers at noon on Wednesday, on behalf of landlord Enrique Silva Davila. Vazquez believed the men had come armed feared he was about to be kidnapped. He phoned police to say men with guns and a grey van were there to abduct him. The lawyer and other men left without incident just before heavily armed local and federal police arrived to a peaceful scene.

Vazquez later complemented the police on their quick response but insisted he'd hadn't meant to call for a tactical response team.
