ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

STORY: A video filmed by the Italian coast guard shows two people being pulled from the water off the coast of the southern Italian island of Lampedusa on Thursday (October 3), after a boat packed with African migrants caught fire and sank in one of the worst disasters of Europe's chronic immigration crisis.

The video shows two men in the waters of the Mediterranean being approached by a coast guard vessel and assisted in boarding it.

It then shows five men on board the coast guard vessel wrapped in thermal blankets.

Authorities have rescued 155 survivors after a 20-metre (66-foot) boat carrying around 500 migrants, mostly Eritreans and Somalis, sank no more than 1 kilometre (0.6 miles) from shore.

They have also recovered 111 bodies from the submerged wreck of the migrant boat and are expecting to recover more, a coast guard official said on Friday (October 4).

In all, more than 300 people are believed to have died
