This City's Metro Will Test for Drunk Commuters

A city's metro is slated to test for drunken commuters.

After a few drinks, driving doesn't seem like a good idea but taking the local train is a safe bet - right?

Not if you are in New Delhi, India.

Commuters who’ve had a bit too much to drink before getting on the train may have to look into a transit plan B.

Due to the number of fights erupting on the city’s rail system, officials have decided to test for drunkenness prior to entry.

If the breathalyzer registers over the limit, entry onto the train is denied. Also, names will be taken and violations will be kept on record.

The system is already in place at one of the stations and alcometers are on order for the remaining 133. One official noted that only individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol will be tested.

In response to a similar problem, last year Scotland outlawed the consumption of alcohol on trains between mid evening and mid morning hours. They also announced they would be cracking down on people who are clearly intoxicated, refusing to allow them to travel by rail.
