Bangladesh buries unidentified victims of building collapse

The Bangladeshi authorities buried 18 unidentified victims of the Dhaka building collapse on Wednesday, as many of the bodies still remained unclaimed.

The burial took place to avert a health crisis, as some bodies were beginning to decompose, exactly a week after the disaster that killed hundreds.

One woman searching for her relative did find her at the cemetery and collapsed into tears.

Wednesday's burial was organised by the Anjuman Mufidul Islam charity, which assigned numbers to each of the unnamed graves.

There were about 3,000 people inside the Rana Plaza building in Dhaka's commercial suburb of Savar when it collapsed last week, killing 402 people.

About 2,500 people were rescued, but many remain unaccounted for.

The collapse of the complex, which was built on a swamp, is the country's worst industrial accident.
