Rescuers combed through rubble in a bid to find dozens of people feared trapped under the debris after a portion of a hospital building collapsed in central India.
Local media reports said the ceiling of the two-storey Kasturba Gandhi Hospital collapsed in Bhopal, provincial capital of Madhya Pradesh in central India on Friday (April 26), trapping at least a dozen people and injuring many others.
Several fire engines along with paramilitary forces rushed to the site to initiate rescue and relief operations.
Injured victims were taken to the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU).
Many Indian buildings do not conform to safety regulations, with owners constructing extra floors or structures without approval from the concerned authorities and beyond the sanctioned floor space index (FSI) or Floor Area Ration (FAR).
