Truck Overturns on Highway, Spills Bees

A truck overturns on a highway and spills bees.

Recently, a California truck driver swerved to avoid striking an animal on the road.

As a result of the abrupt maneuver, the truck overturned on the highway. The 52-year-old driver was carrying a load of beehive boxes, which were occupied.

Millions of bees inside the truck were freed following the accident. First responders arrived on the scene and decided it was best to let them calm down for awhile.

When beekeepers intervened, it took them more than 12 hours to collect the loose bees.

In 2003, a truck carrying 80 million live bees flipped over on a Florida highway. The 82-year-old driver was killed at the scene of the crash, while the escaped bees circled the overturned rig.

A fire-rescue authority stated “A lot of the hives were broken, so firefighters had to put on their protective equipment to get the driver out.” Beekeepers arrived at the scene, using smoke to temporarily cause the escaped bees to fall asleep.
