Thousands of homes were left without power in Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northern England as more snow fell across the United Kingdom on Sunday (March 24).

A late blast of winter weather has drained Britain's already modest gas stocks to around a tenth of their capacity, sparking fears of supply restrictions, with the cold weather forecast to continue into early April.

In Scotland, about 1,500 homes in the north and west of Arran were without power.

Temperatures were expected to hover around freezing for most of the United Kingdom for the next few days.
