Lipton: Some England fans used Ferdinand farce to ‘vent racist beliefs’

The Daily Mirror’s chief football writer looks ahead to the Three Lions’ crunch clash with Montenegro this Tuesday as Roy Hodgson attempts to get his team to the 2014 World Cup.
He also discusses comments from Steven Gerrard about Rio Ferdinand’s absence but believes that some fans may have taken the opportunity to ‘vent racist beliefs’ when they sang songs about the defender in San Marino.
He thought the incidents were disgraceful and believes more than a handful of fans were chanting.
