A Veronica Mars movie project thrives on Kickstarter.

Even though the TV series ‘Veronica Mars’ has been off the air for quite some time, the interest has yet to die down. Over the past five years, rumors had swirled that a movie based on the popular show might be in the making

The series creator Rob Thomas was initially optimistic; however, the project never took off as Warner Brothers assumed there would not be enough public interest.

Thomas along with lead actress, Kristen Bell got together to start their own campaign. They decided to take their idea to Kickstarter.com in the hopes of creating a low budget feature film.

Amazingly, in a little under 4 and a half hours, they received $1 million in pledges and reached their $2 million goal within a day. As of this report, they had raised over 3 million dollars.

Backers of the project received some goodies including tickets to the premiere, copies of the movie script and T-shirts. One lucky, but hefty bidder was rewarded with a small speaking role as a waitress or waiter in the film.

The tv series ran from 2004 to 2007. Kristen Bell plays the part of Veronica Mars, a teenage investigator who is dedicated to solving mysteries in the seaside community of Neptune, California.
