Snow causes commuter havoc in northwestern Europe

Unusually heavy snow in northwestern Europe causes severe transport disruptions for commuters throughout the region on Tuesday.

At Paris' Gare du Nord station, Eurostar passengers were told that no trains were expected to run due to the severe weather.

One passenger said she was trying to visit family in London.

The City of Light was hit hard by the cold snap.

One Parisian commuter unable to drive to work because of the snow said the weather has been unexpected.

Cross-Channel services linking London and Brussels were also affected.

And hundreds of British drivers were stranded in their cars on Tuesday as snow caused traffic chaos in southern parts of England.

The freezing conditions stranded some motorists in their cars for up to eight hours overnight.
