Mark Wilkinson is a musician of substance. His lyrical depth, gift for melody, and impassioned delivery are quickly establishing him as one of Australia's most highly regarded singers and songwriters.
Since introducing himself at the end of 2006 with the Cellophane Life EP, Mark has gone on to sell some 30,000 physical records -- an incredible feat for any independent artist. Meanwhile his debut album, Truth Came Running, has been a constant fixture in the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts since its release in April 2011 - well over a year now!
As an independent artist Mark has been completely self-reliant as he carves out a career the old fashion way. Maintaining a demanding tour schedule, on days off he can still be found busking along the city streets. With the buzz around his live performances continuing to grow, Mark regularly sells out shows across the country. His reputation has seen him open arena and major theatre tours nationally for some of the world's biggest names, including Brian Wilson, Chicago, Peter Frampton, and America amongst others. He's performed for VIPs at Kings of Leon and Santana concerts, he's represented Australia at the World Expo in China, and he's entertained deployed troops in the Solomon Islands. Mark has also headlined European tours, performing to capacity crowds in London, Paris, and Berlin. It was on one such trip that Mark came to the attention of David Gray's producer, Iestyn Polson, and was invited to record in David's famous Church Studio with his band backing him up.
Remarkably Mark only ever aspired to be a songwriter, but was forced onto the stage as the only avenue to share his craft. A prodigious creative mind, Mark tested the limits when he embarked on 'A Year of YouTube', posting a new original song each week over the course of a year. Having amassed some 250,000 views at the time of writing, there's been countless requests to shoot a second season. Meanwhile Mark's reputation within the industry as a diverse songwriter is starting to shine through, with regular requests to write with and for major label artists across many genres.
Currently working on his sophomore album, Mark has teamed up with The Cat Empire's Ollie McGill. It seemed a fitting pairing, with The Cat Empire having built a significant global fanbase off the back of their live show. Endeavouring to showcase Mark's songs and voice amidst a timeless production, this album will see Mark find yet another gear in an already impressive career.
