Introducing a new heavyweight musical talent in the shape of 21-year-old Birmingham newcomer Jacob Banks. Having only taught himself the acoustic guitar in the last 12 month, this talented singer / songwriter has been building a name for himself on the underground circuit with his interpretation of vintage sounds mixed with a contemporary spin, making his sound fresh for 2012.
In 2011 Jacob beat thousands of other hopefuls to win the 'Are You In' Adidas competition, of which the prize was dedicated studio time and mentoring with none other than Plan B, to penn his own track under the watchful eye of the BRIT Award winning star. Following the success of this he went onto enter -- and win - the Birmingham leg of the MOBO Unsung competition and feature on the MOBO tour alongside names such as Clement Marfo & The Frontline, Yasmin and Cleo Sol.
Jacob cites his influences as being as varied as African multi-instrumentalist Fela, alongside soul legends such as Nina Simone and Sam Cooke, sprinkled with the acoustic goodness of names such as Ben Howard and paired with guitar riffs you are likely to find in a John Mayer record.
'Kids On The Corner' is the first release from Jacob, which will be taken off his upcoming debut EP 'The Monologue' which is released in January 2013. With Zane Lowe championing the track as his 'Next Hype' record, and additional support from XFM, 1Xtra and DJ Target '100% Homegrown' the campaign has begun in earnest.
