NATO chief urges Taliban to renounce violence

John Allen, top US general and NATO commander in Afghanistan, has urged the Taliban to renounce violence and respect women's rights if it wants to play a part in the country's future. Speaking to Jennifer Glasse, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Kabul on Saturday, Allen said the al-Qaeda affiliated group would have to soften their views to gain acceptance in the country that has somewhat opened since its ouster in 2001.
