Finally a full extent of the fighting here becomes more clear.
On Thursday, nearly two weeks after a government assault ended a four-day hostage crisis at the In Amenas gas compound in Algeria, the media got their first close look at the damage.
Up to 37 foreigners died after troops stormed the complex ... 29 hostage-takers were also killed.
The charred remains of the vehicles used by Islamist militants suggest the fighting to end the siege was fierce.
The local municipal chief says his community remains defiant against acts of terror.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) IN AMENAS MUNICIPALITY CHIEF, MANSOURI BELAL, SAYING:
"It will not affect us, and we will never fear them. They are cowards who work at night and we will confront them with our dedicated citizens with God's help."
It's unclear when the compound will resume operations.
Security remains tight and the military stands watch against potential new treats.
