Britain's Prince Harry talks about life on the frontline in Afghanistan

Britain's Prince Harry has just concluded his second tour of duty in Afghanistan, working as a gunner in Apache attack helicopters.

Before returning home, the third-in-line to the British throne gave an in-depth interview about his 20 week posting at the Camp Bastion military base.

Prince Harry says he has killed Taliban insurgents.

[Prince Harry]:
"Yes, we fire when we have to. Take a life to save a life. But essentially, you know, we're more of a deterrent than anything else."

The Prince went on to say:

[Prince Harry]:
"Take a life to save a life. That's what we sort of revolve around, I suppose. If there's people trying to do bad stuff to our guys, then we'll take them out of the game I suppose."

Despite being born into royal luxury, Harry enjoys the rigors of army life.

[Prince Harry]:
"This is my bed. I don't really make when I'm down here which is a joy. That's it made."

And also the banter:

[Prince Harry]:
"Whoever loses this becomes the brew bitch. Then you have to make brew for everybody all day. Army friend one. His mother needs to know that he's been smoking while he's been out here. So we'll make sure that's on camera."

Prince Harry says his brother William, second-in-line to the British throne and soon to be first time father, is secretly jealous that he can't be out on the front lines in Afghanistan with him.

[Prince Harry]:
"I think there is a bit of jealousy. Not just the fact that I get to fly this, but obviously he'd love to be out here. I don't see why, to be honest, I don't see why he couldn't. His job out here would be flying the IIT or whatever. Doing Chinook missions, just the same as us. No one knows he is in the cockpit. Yes, you get shot at, but, you know, if the guys are being....if the guys who are doing the same job as us are being shot at on the ground, I don't think there is anything wrong with us being shot at as well. People back home might have issues with that but we're not special, the guys who are out there are, simple as that."

Harry says he is happy for his brother and Catherine, and is looking forward to being an uncle.
