President Obama's ceremonial swearing-in on Monday (January 21) fell on the same day as the national holiday honouring slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and congressional leaders stopped by a statue of King inside the U.S. capitol to pay tribute after the inaugural luncheon.

Obama also took the oath with his hand on two Bibles - one from President Abraham Lincoln, who ended slavery, and the other from King.
