Italian marines return to special court in India

The two Italian marines charged with killing two Indian fishermen return to New Delhi on Friday.

These marines, members of a military security team protecting an oil-tanker, the Enrica Lexie, say they mistook the fishermen for pirates.

Last year, Italy challenged India's right to try the sailors, arguing that the shooting took place in international waters off the coast of the Indian state of Kerala.

The marines face charges in a special federal trial since Kerala courts do not have jurisdiction to try the case.

The Italian government said it is pleased by the decision and says its main objective is to bring the soldiers home.
