Pakistani politician, bodyguards gunned down in Karachi

Stunned locals gathered outside a Karachi hospital after four people people, including the lawmaker were gunned down in broad daylight. Police said the assailants opened fire on politician Syed Manzar Imam's car and fled the scene.

Imam, a member of the Karachi's largest political party, and his three bodyguards were taken to a morgue for identification.

Party officials called for calm in the wake of the attack but four cars were torched and worried shopkeepers closed their doors in anticipation.

Police say an investigation into the shootings are underway. Karachi, a port city, is Pakistan's financial hub and is plagued by violent crime.
