Rohingya migrants to be deported from Thailand

This makeshift settlement is the temporary home of around 400 Rohingya Muslims near the Malaysian border in Thailand.

But Thai officials raided the settlement and are preparing to deport them back to Myanmar.

They say the Rohingyas are illegal workers waiting to be trafficked across the border to Malaysia.

Rohingyas at this rubber plantation settlement are just some of the hundreds who make their way abroad each year in search of a better life, an exodus given added impetus after recent sectarian violence in Myanmar's western state of Rakhine.

Locals have aided the group which includes women and children and provided them with medicine.

Some 800,000 Rohingyas live in Myanmar but are officially stateless. The Myanmar government denies them citizenship, regarding them as illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, but Bangladesh does not recognise them as citizens either.
