British Soldier Killed By Man In Afghan Army Uniform
  • 11 years ago
A man wearing an Afghan army uniform shot dead a British soldier at a patrol base in Helmand province of Afghanistan, a NATO spokesman said in a news conference on Tuesday (January 8).
"What I can tell you is that actually yesterday already a suspected member of the Afghan national army shot a British ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) soldier in Nahri Sarraj district in Helmand province," said Brigadier General Gunter Katz, spokesman for International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)
"The shooter, who actually turned his weapon against members of the Afghan national army and ISAF, was shot during the incident that took place at the patrol base Hazrat in the province as I mentioned (Helmand)," said Katz.

Six more British soldiers were wounded police officials in Helmand told Reuters.
At least 63 NATO-led personnel were killed in 47 insider attacks across Afghanistan last year, far more than previous years, eroding trust between Afghan soldiers and their foreign counterparts as the coalition plans to withdraw most of its troops by the end of 2014.
