Timeline: How the crisis in Egypt unfolded

The controversial presidential decree sparked mass protests in Cairo.

On November 26, after days of mass protests President Mohamed Morsi clarified the decree saying the immunity only applied to quote sovereign matters.

On December 6, Morsi supporters and opposition protesters clashed in front of the presidential palace. Seven people were killed.

In response, the president called for a national dialogue. The opposition rejected the offer, forcing Morsi to finally rescend his controversial decree.
