Heavy Snow Blankets Northeast China

Heavy snowstorms in northeast China have caused major disruptions in what some say is the worst snowstorm to hit the area in 50 years.
Thousands of households lost power in Heilongjiang Province on Sunday due to power lines being crushed under heavy snowfall.
In the country, farmers say the snow has affected their crop harvest.
[Ms. Hao, Heilongjiang Resident]:
"When we were planting crops, it was dry, but then it started to rain and the soil was too wet. Fall was also very wet, which made planting difficult. There are a lot of crops still to be harvested. Most farmers here are like mine. This has been a difficult year with a lot of natural disasters."
The water supply has also been cut off to Hegang City in Heilongjiang Province.
Snowfall in the area was 20 inches deep by Tuesday morning, causing main expressways to be closed.
Inner Mongolia was also affected by the snow with road, school, and two airport closures in the eastern part of the region.
[Mr Li, Inner Mongolia Resident ]
"The snow temporarily stopped now. It has snowed twice already, the first time was 1 to 1.5 inches, the second time was around one inch. We had two snow days, but school will resume tomorrow."
More snowstorms are predicted for parts of Northeast China, eastern Inner Mongolia, and the Xinjiang Autonomous Region through Friday.
